How to use breed information
Breed describes tendencies, not guarantees. Two Ragdolls can have very different personalities, and early socialization, health and environment shape a cat as much as genetics. Use breed profiles to narrow your options — then meet the individual cat.
Don't overlook mixed-breed cats
Around nine in ten pet cats are mixed-breed "domestic shorthairs" or "domestic longhairs". They come in every personality, are widely available from shelters, and often have fewer inherited problems than breeds with a small gene pool. Read our guide to mixed-breed cats.
