Temperament and personality

Turkish Angoras are intelligent, playful and affectionate, with strong opinions. They like to be involved, enjoy games and climbing and often choose a favorite person. They can be bossy with other pets.

They are energetic but less demanding than the most active breeds.

Size and appearance

Fine-boned and elegant with a silky, single-layer semi-long coat, a plumed tail and large ears. White is the classic color; eyes may be blue, green, amber or odd.

Activity and enrichment

Active. Daily play and high perches.

Coat care and grooming

The silky single coat mats little — brush once a week.

Typical health concerns

Every cat is an individual, and most cats of any breed live long, healthy lives with good preventive care. These are the conditions most often discussed for this breed — ask a breeder for health-testing results and discuss screening with your vet.

  • Deafness — common in white cats with blue eyes; have kittens hearing-tested.
  • Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM).
  • Hereditary ataxia (rare).

Who is the Turkish Angora right for?

A good match if you…

  • want an active, intelligent semi-longhair with easy grooming
