Your best matches
How the breed selector works
Each breed in our catalog is rated from 1 to 5 on activity, affection, vocal level, shedding, grooming needs, and how well it typically copes with children, other pets and time alone. The quiz compares your answers with those ratings and gives more weight to things that are hard to change — like how much time you're home, how much grooming you can manage and whether there are young children in the house.
Use the results as a starting point
Breed describes tendencies, not guarantees. Two cats of the same breed can have quite different personalities, and upbringing matters as much as genetics. Once you have a shortlist:
- Read each breed profile, especially the health section.
- Meet adult cats of the breed if you can.
- Read how to choose a responsible breeder.
- Visit your local shelter too — an adult mixed-breed cat with the personality you want is often the most reliable match of all.
Allergies
If anyone in your home has cat allergies, remember that no breed is hypoallergenic. Read cat breeds for allergy sufferers before deciding.
