Temperament and personality
Siamese cats are highly social and famously vocal, with a loud, raspy voice they use to hold conversations. They bond closely with their people, want to be involved in everything and are quick learners who enjoy tricks and puzzle toys.
They dislike being alone and can become destructive or depressed without company and stimulation. Two cats — or a very present owner — work best.
Size and appearance
Slender and elegant with a long body, wedge-shaped head, large ears and vivid blue almond eyes. The short, fine coat is pale with darker "points" on the face, ears, paws and tail.
Activity and enrichment
Very active. Plan several play sessions a day, tall cat trees, window perches and food puzzles. Many enjoy harness walks and clicker training.
Coat care and grooming
Minimal. A weekly rub with a rubber mitt or soft brush removes loose hair.
Typical health concerns
Every cat is an individual, and most cats of any breed live long, healthy lives with good preventive care. These are the conditions most often discussed for this breed — ask a breeder for health-testing results and discuss screening with your vet.
- Dental and gum disease — brushing teeth is especially worthwhile.
- Progressive retinal atrophy (PRA) — DNA test available.
- Amyloidosis (liver) and asthma are reported more often in the breed.
Who is the Siamese right for?

- work from home or have a busy household
- enjoy a chatty, interactive cat
- want a cat you can train
Think twice if you…

- want a cat that entertains itself
