Temperament and personality
Balinese cats have the Siamese personality — social, talkative, intelligent and affectionate — wrapped in a silky semi-long coat. They are playful, trainable and want to be part of everything.
They do poorly when left alone for long periods.
Size and appearance
Slender and elegant with a fine, silky single coat, a plumed tail, blue eyes and colorpoints.
Activity and enrichment
Active. Daily play and training.
Coat care and grooming
The single coat mats little. Brush once or twice a week.
Typical health concerns
Balinese are often mentioned for allergy sufferers because some individuals may produce less Fel d 1 allergen — but evidence is limited and varies between cats. No cat is truly hypoallergenic.
- Conditions similar to the Siamese: dental disease, progressive retinal atrophy, amyloidosis.
Who is the Balinese right for?
A good match if you…
- want a chatty, affectionate cat
- work from home
Think twice if you…
- need a quiet cat
- are away all day
